Silk abaya by ANORA is a hand-sewn, lightweight outer garment – each available Pattern/Color option is a different, one-of-a-kind piece. Choose whichever option suits you best from the list of available patterns.

What is a silk abaya by ANORA?

It’s a lightweight silk outer garment inspired by traditional Eastern outerwear cuts – simplified into a form that’s easy to wear day-to-day in Europe, without giving up the authentic, ikat-inspired pattern. It’s a loose, year-round layer that can be thrown over a simple outfit or worn tied at the waist as a standalone, statement dress.

Craft and material

Every abaya in the ANORA collection is hand-sewn – no production line, no rush, so no two pieces are identical. The base fabric is silk, printed with a pattern inspired by ikat – a traditional thread-dyeing technique characteristic of Central Asian craftsmanship. This technique is what gives the pattern its typical, slightly blurred contours.

Where does this pattern come from?

Ikat patterns have a centuries-old tradition in Central Asia, where they have accompanied everyday and festive dress for generations. ANORA draws on this heritage, translating characteristic geometric and floral motifs onto lightweight silk, in a form that’s comfortable for everyday European wear – without losing the pattern’s authentic character.

How to wear this abaya?

It works as a light, open coat thrown over a t-shirt and jeans for an easy, everyday look, or tied at the waist for a more dress-like, statement silhouette in the evening. It’s a practical, year-round layer, equally suited to travel and everyday wardrobes – under a coat on cooler days, and as a bold standalone layer in summer. A silk abaya also travels well: it packs flat, resists creasing better than heavier weaves, and works as a lightweight layer whether you are exploring a new city or dressing up for an evening out.

Why choose an ANORA silk abaya?

Unlike mass production, every piece is made individually and by hand, which means natural variation in the pattern placement between pieces. Buying one gets you a piece you won’t find anywhere else – and choosing between the available Pattern/Color variants lets you match the pattern’s intensity to your own style.

Size and fit

The abaya has a universal, oversized cut – one size that fits most body types well. (Exact measurements to be confirmed against the specific piece.)

Care

We recommend hand washing in cool water (up to 30°C) with a mild detergent, without wringing – press out excess water by hand and dry flat, away from sunlight and radiators. Iron from the inside, on a low setting, ideally through a cotton cloth. Alternatively: dry cleaning. Avoid prolonged soaking and tumble drying. (To be confirmed against the specific piece’s care label.)
